Lake Parz (Clear) in Armenia: Hidden gem

One of the things I love about my life are the weekend travels. While at first just a mere adventure, they have now turned to a kind tradition which we try to always keep. Being a small country Armenia has much to offer for those who are willing to explore it.

On the road we thought of going to Haghartsin Monastery, the beauty of which is beyond description, but as we drove closer to the monastery we decided to go to a place where we had not been — to Parz Lich translated into English as Lake Clear.

Lake Parz – A piece of advice to the visitors of this place would be not to expect a large lake, otherwise you might be disappointed. What you should expect to find (and trust me your expectations will be more than surpassed) is a beautiful and amazing scenery completed by the view of this small lake.

It will take over an hour to get to Dilijan National Park where Lake Parz is located. One thing I am sure of is you will totally love the road standing out with woods and various shades of the green. The scene is even more spectacular and remarkable especially in fall.

One tip for people going to Lake Parz is to go by jeep or by a car which you wouldn’t care to have damaged that much, because the road to the lake is in a terrible state. The distance from the lake to the main road is around 10 kilometers but the road is so awful that it takes over 40 minutes to go there and in this regard, the road seems endless. Nevertheless, once you get there you might forget about all those inconveniences the road imposed on you.

As said the lake is not large at all. I don’t know about its exact size but this is the case when the quality cannot be measured by the size. There are boats by the lake. A 30 minutes ride will cost 2000 dram (around 4 Euros). There is also a motor boat. It costs a bit more — 3000 dram (around 6 Euros) per 15 minutes. But my opinion is that the motor boat is a waste of money on this lake as it’s small, and common boat is much better, besides you might somehow travel back to the romantic times. Other than that, it’s a lot more fun.

In case you feel hungry, there is a cafe-restaurant a few steps from the lake. It is well equipped and complies with the entire mood around the lake. The menu is quite affordable and the food is tasty.

If it starts raining and you are sitting in the boat in the middle of the lake, you needn’t worry. At the wink of the eye a local resident who works there will reach out to you with an umbrella. 🙂
